JANUARY 2025  - Pandemics have historically posed one of the most significant threats to public health, economies, and social stability. The COVID-19 pandemic, which originated in late 2019, quickly evolved into a global health crisis, impacting millions and disrupting health systems worldwide. The Middle East region, home to a diverse array of health systems, economic capabilities, and political structures, demonstrated a proactive approach in managing the pandemic.

Countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia were recognized for their rapid response, successful vaccination rollouts, and digital health innovations. Other countries with weaker health infrastructure faced significant challenges, exacerbated by limited resources, fragmented healthcare systems, and complex socio-political dynamics.
